What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a revolutionary cosmetic procedure that utilizes the fat already in your body. It is an innovative fat transfer process that creates more fullness and definition to construct more natural and full buttocks. It’s also sometimes done as an “add-on” to liposuction and other procedures to help make the finished procedure’s look come together flawlessly.
Am I a Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
If you want a curvier, more voluptuous behind, you may be a good candidate for a BBL. Other factors that make you a good candidate include:
- Having a sufficient amount of excess unwanted fat on the stomach, thighs, lower back, or hips
- Being in good overall health
- Feeling that your butt is too small, flat, or out of balance with the rest of your body proportions
- Wanting to increase the volume in your buttocks
- Having realistic expectations and goals for surgery
Schedule your consultation with Town and Country Plastic Surgeons to determine if you’re a good candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift.

How Is a Brazilian Butt Lift Performed?
The first step of any cosmetic procedure is a consultation with a board-certified surgeon. The consultation is an opportunity for you to discuss the aesthetic goals you have in mind and ask questions about how to get that desired look. Our team will present options that best fit your body’s structure and give you the desired curves. One of our surgeons will show you the different areas of your body where they can extract unwanted fat. The most common harvest site areas come from your abdomen, back, hips, or thighs.
At the start of your BBL procedure, you’ll be given general anesthesia to ensure your comfort during surgery. Liposuction will be used to collect fat from the chosen areas of the body. Once the fat is removed from the body, it will be purified and then placed in syringes. Your surgeon will create incisions around the buttocks to allow the fat to be transferred to the area. Then, the fat will be injected into the buttocks to increase the volume.
Brazilian Butt Lift surgery generally takes around two to four hours to complete, depending on the amount of fat transferred and other procedures performed.
What Is the Recovery From a Brazilian Butt Lift Like?
Like any cosmetic surgery, after you’ve gone through our Brazilian Butt Lift, you will go through a recovery period. When the anesthesia wears off, you’ll experience some discomfort, but this will be easily managed with prescription or over-the-counter pain medication. You can expect some downtime, as you must give your body time to heal.
It will take six weeks after surgery before you can sit comfortably or for extended periods on your bottom. There are also BBL sitting pillows that allow short periods of sitting. Our specialists will demonstrate the proper use of these pillows to maximize your comfort without compromising the healing process.
One of the main things to remember is that the transferred fats need ample time to settle and not get pushed out of place. When reclining, you have to lie on your side or stand. The only exception is when you use your toilet.
Additionally, lymphatic massage will be recommended after your procedure to ensure even and smooth results. Lymphatic massage will help ease inflammation, reduce swelling and bruising, and expedite recovery. We will recommend a few lymphatic massage specialists closest to you for ease and convenience. Expect lymphatic massage treatments to last up to three months. You will wear a compression garment during this time to help limit swelling. You may wear a few compression garments throughout your recovery as your body shrinks. Our lymphatic massage specialists can help you get fitted for garments once you are ready.
If you’re wondering when you can return to work, your estimated time-table is after 7–14 days of recovery. You cannot perform strenuous physical activities like intense workouts during these first two weeks. However, you can walk to stay active. After two to three weeks, you generally can increase your activity. Everyone’s body heals slightly differently, so ask your surgeon for specific details on your recovery timeline.
What Results Can I Expect from a BBL?
After your BBL, you’ll see a noticeable difference in your bottom and the areas where fat was removed for the fat transfer. Your final results will be visible once the fat fully settles and is resorbed. Typically, final results are visible around six weeks after the procedure; however, it may take several months or up to a year in some cases to produce the final results.
Brazilian Butt Lift results are designed to be long lasting and can be enjoyed for many years. It is important to note that maintaining your results is highly dependent on staying at a stable weight. This is because the fat that is transferred to your butt will act the same as fat anywhere on your body, meaning if you lose or gain weight, your butt may get smaller or bigger.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQ
Do you have any questions we didn’t answer above? Here are some of the inquiries we hear the most from our Houston and Lake Jackson patients.
How much does a Brazilian Butt Lift cost in Houston, TX?
The cost of a BBL in Houston or Lake Jackson, TX, will depend on a few key factors, including your surgeon’s fee, surgical facility costs, anesthesia fees, pain medications, post-surgery garments, BBL pillows, and any medical tests required before surgery. The most important factor is the length and complexity of your procedure.
What makes a Brazilian Butt Lift different?
In a Brazilian Butt Lift procedure, our doctors add fat to your buttocks to improve the size and shape. This process can help fill out loose or sagging skin and narrow the waist to more ideal aesthetic proportions. The BBL is different from a regular butt lift or butt augmentation with implants as it utilizes the patient’s unwanted fat for the procedure, which minimizes any risk of having a foreign body.
What makes a traditional butt lift different from a BBL?
The traditional butt lift removes skin from the upper portion of the butt, which creates lifting. However, it does not increase the size of the butt at all and can flatten your bottom. A BBL procedure adds fat to the buttocks to achieve more ideal proportions and fullness.
Are there risks in getting a Brazilian Butt Lift?
There will always be risks in any surgical procedure, cosmetic or reconstructive. The Brazilian Butt Lift procedure has risks that most other surgical procedures have, such as anesthesia complications, infection, bleeding, and scarring. After many years, our experienced, board-certified surgeons continue performing BBLs with “fine-tuned” techniques for easier recovery.
Will I see an immediate change?
You’ll immediately notice the change after your surgery. However, it is not your final result, and over the next few weeks, your body will eliminate some of the transplanted fat. Generally, 60% of the fat is maintained after a BBL. This fat is permanent and will be maintained with a stable weight.
How much fat will my body remove?
Unfortunately, we cannot predict precisely how much of the transplanted fat your body will remove. However, roughly 40 to 50 percent of the transplanted fat will be resorbed within six weeks. What stays should be permanent.
Are Brazilian Butt Lift results permanent?
The new buttock’s fat is long-lasting and stable. Should you gain weight, the transferred fat in your buttocks will grow as it would in other areas of your body. If you lose weight, it will shrink as well.
Can my BBL be combined with other procedures?
Depending on your goals and overall health, additional procedures may be combined with your BBL. Combining procedures minimizes total operative and anesthesia visits but carries additional risk and a more prolonged recovery. BBL recovery requires patients to stay off of their buttocks, which can be difficult with combining additional procedures. The choice to combine procedures should only be made after a balanced discussion of the risks and benefits with your surgeon.
