Rhinoplasty Houston and Lake Jackson, TX
Centered on the face, a nose commands attention, so any bumps or misalignments bother many. Yet these can also be changed with what is known as a nose job or rhinoplasty, a surgical procedure that alters the shape of the nose or modifies its functioning. Rhinoplasty can also be performed to improve breathing, correct a congenital disability, or repair the nose after an accident, such as a deviated septum.
Many of our Houston and Lake Jackson nose surgery patients choose this surgery for cosmetic reasons. At Town and Country Plastic Surgeons, all rhinoplasties performed by our doctors improve the symmetry and enhance the natural beauty of a patient’s facial features.

What Are My Rhinoplasty Options?
The type of rhinoplasty you get depends on the current state of your nose, the extent of correction needed, and your goals.
Open Rhinoplasty
For an open rhinoplasty, your surgeon will make an incision across the nose tissue that separates the nostrils. This incision will allow your surgeon to reshape the nose cartilage.
Closed Rhinoplasty
The incisions for a closed rhinoplasty are created inside the nose. This type of rhinoplasty allows for minor resculpting.
Nasal Tip Plasty
A nasal tip plasty is performed for patients who only want the tip of their nose reshaped.
How Is Rhinoplasty Performed?
The first step of the rhinoplasty process is to come in for a consultation. During your nose job consultation, you’ll share your medical history, tell us your reasons for wishing to have nose surgery, learn in-depth information about the procedure, and discover the results you can realistically achieve. You’ll receive a customized treatment plan to enhance your facial features and optimize your nasal function.
On the day of your rhinoplasty procedure, you’ll receive either local or general anesthesia, depending on the extent of your cosmetic procedure. Your surgeon will create an incision in the chosen area, depending on your treatment plan. Once the incisions are made, your surgeon will reshape the nose to fit your goals. The reshaping step may involve removing excess cartilage and bone, adding cartilage grafts, straightening the septum, etc. After the nose has been sufficiently reshaped, the incisions will be closed.

What Is the Recovery From Rhinoplasty Like?
To ensure a smooth rhinoplasty recovery, prioritize rest and take it easy, especially during the first couple of weeks post-surgery. Everyone’s healing period may look slightly different, but most patients see most of their swelling decrease one month after surgery. Minimal swelling may continue to occur throughout the first year after your procedure.
You must wear a nasal splint for the first week after the surgery. Bruising and swelling around the eye area are normal and usually disappear within three to seven days. However, this can sometimes take up to two weeks. Once your nose surgery healing is complete, the results are revealed. We recommend our rhinoplasty patients avoid strenuous activities for at least four to six weeks following the procedure.
What Results Can I Expect After Rhinoplasty?
Your nasal splints will be removed five to seven days after your procedure. Once the splints are removed, you’ll notice a slimmer, straighter nose. It is typical for a small amount of swelling to occur following splint removal, but this is unnoticeable to most.
Rhinoplasty results are designed to be long-lasting. You may experience minimal changes in your nose’s appearance as you age naturally, but the improvements made to your nose from rhinoplasty are considered to be relatively permanent. We recommend that our rhinoplasty patients always use sun protection to ensure the longevity and quality of their results.

FAQ
Rhinoplasty FAQ
What are the risks of rhinoplasty?
Like all surgeries, nose jobs do carry some minor risks. Infection is usually the most common. If you take care of the incisions after your facial plastic surgery, your chances of infection will be minimal. While low, other risks include difficulty breathing, change in skin sensation, nasal septal perforation, bleeding, and the possibility of needing a revision procedure.
Does rhinoplasty cause bruising and swelling?
Your nose will slightly swell following the surgery. After the procedure, a splint will be applied to protect it from minor trauma and keep swelling at bay. If you are being treated for breathing problems simultaneously, a stent may be inserted or packed inside. After the surgery, you may experience a small amount of pain around your head and nose, for which you’ll be administered pain medication.
How do I prepare for rhinoplasty?
After an initial consultation, you’ll have a visit with one of our friendly nurses or assistants approximately two weeks before surgery. They will remind you not to take medications that thin your blood, such as aspirin or Advil. You will also be given a complete set of verbal and written instructions so that you can go over the process with your caretaker.
