Eyelid Surgery for Men Houston and Lake Jackson, TX
A frequent issue many Houston and Lake Jackson men experience as they age is drooping eyelids or sagging brows, along with the all-too-common problem of under eye bags. Fortunately, eyelid surgery can be performed to remove such fat accumulation and excess skin, allowing men to look awake and more alert. This procedure, medically known as blepharoplasty, can also help those whose vision has been impaired by excess skin to see more clearly.
Preparing for Eyelid Surgery
Prior to undergoing eyelid surgery, we will review your medical history, educate you about the procedure and give you a physical examination to ensure that you are a good candidate. We will also talk about the desired outcome in order to assess whether your expectations are realistic. You will also be given instructions of lifestyle changes you’ll need to make prior to surgery such as avoiding medications or supplements that are associated with bleeding for two weeks before the surgical date and to quit smoking several weeks in advance of surgery.

What To Expect
Blepharoplasty is typically an outpatient procedure. Upper eyelid surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia in the office. For lower eyelid surgery, general anesthesia is typically required because it is more invasive. Your surgical plan will be customized and discussed with you prior to the procedure, but incisions will be carefully placed to ensure minimal visible scarring, once healing is complete. Patients leave after their procedure for home. The most important thing you can do is elevate your head and use ice packs for the first 1-2 days. Our doctors will provide all post-surgical instructions and answer any questions about your recovery period.
Possible Side Effects
Some side effects are to be expected. Watery eyes, double vision and sensitivity to light are common. The lubricating ointment used in the procedure can also temporarily cause blurred vision. Redness at the incision site, swelling, bruising and some discomfort are also to be expected. All of these issues are temporary. However, Houston and Lake Jackson men should seek immediate medical help in the event of more worrisome effects like chest pain, shortness of breath, bleeding, vision problems or severe pain.
Eyelid surgery can help men to look younger and improve their self-image. In some cases, it can even improve peripheral vision. Contact Town and Country Plastic Surgeons today to schedule a consultation and find out if eyelid surgery is right for you.
