How it works
SkinPen® creates micro-channels (microscopic holes) in your skin at a rate of 1600 per second. These wounds stimulate your skin, kicking its healing process into high gear.
Results follow a 3-step process:

Inflammation
SkinPen’s® microneedles pierce the skin, triggering your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow, and begin to create new tissue.

Proliferation
The micro-wounds created by SkinPen® are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

Remodeling
Remodeling The wound is replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels which are comprised of rich collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin youthfulness.
Treatment
When you come in for your SkinPen® treatment, your skin will be numbed with a topical anesthetic. After that has taken effect, your skin will be cleansed and the SkinPen® will be applied to the treatment areas. The procedure should be near painless with the topical anesthetic. In fast, most patients only feel the vibration. You may develop some mild pinpoint bleeding during the procedure, which is a normal endpoint of the procedure.
After care
Afterwards a topical serum is applied to your skin and you will be instructed, by our aestheticians, on how to care for your skin the rest of the day. You typically do not cleanse your skin or apply makeup until the next day, after which you are free to resume your facial routine. Your skin may be pink and flushed the following day, however, this is usually mild and transient. Over the next few days, you may notice some mild flaking and exfoliation, which is your body’s healing response. It is important that you protect your skin with sunscreen while you are healing.
Results
Results are best if a series of SkinPen® treatments are performed. Over the course of a few weeks after treatment, your skin will appear brighter and rejuvenated. Final results take at least 6 weeks after your last treatment, as it takes time for your skin to produce new collagen. Final results include improvement in fine lines and wrinkles, more even skin tone and softening of scars.
