Breast augmentation is one of the most requested procedures in my practice.
For many women, it’s not about chasing a certain “look.” It’s about restoring balance. Filling out clothes naturally. Feeling at home in your body again.
Whether your goal is to regain fullness after pregnancy, correct asymmetry, or simply enhance your figure, understanding the process matters. The more you know up front, the more confident you’ll feel in making your decision.
Here’s what to expect from consultation to recovery.

The Consultation: Building a Personalized Plan
Every breast augmentation begins with a conversation.
We review your medical history, breast anatomy, and lifestyle. I want to understand how you want your body to feel—not just what you want it to look like. Do you want to feel comfortable in fitness wear? Regain pre-pregnancy curves? Fit smoothly into tailored clothing?
From there, we discuss implant choices. Saline or silicone, round or shaped. Size and profile aren’t chosen from a chart—they’re mapped to your ribcage, chest wall, and skin quality.
We also review incision placement. Most often, this is a discreet crease beneath the breast. Scar planning is part of every consultation.
Candidacy: Who’s a Good Candidate?
Not everyone is ready for surgery right away.
Ideal candidates are:
- In good health with stable weight
- Non-smokers (or willing to stop before and after surgery)
- Free of uncontrolled conditions that raise surgical risk
- Clear on what recovery requires
If you’re planning future pregnancies, we’ll also talk about how timing could affect your results.
The Procedure: What Happens in the OR
Surgery is performed under general anesthesia and takes about one to two hours.
Implants are placed either beneath the chest muscle or just above it. The decision depends on your anatomy and desired outcome. My focus is precision—creating a pocket that lets the implant sit naturally, without tension.
Most patients go home the same day wearing a supportive surgical bra.
Recovery: Stages and Expectations
Recovery happens in phases. I give every patient a written plan so there are no surprises.
- Week 1–2: Swelling and tightness are normal. Most patients take about a week off work. Light walking is fine, but avoid lifting or strenuous activity.
- Around 6 weeks: You can usually return to your full workout routine. Implants begin to settle. Breasts feel softer, more natural.
- 3–6 months: Final results become clearer as tissues relax. Scars continue to fade with proper care.
Most patients describe the early recovery discomfort as soreness or pressure, not sharp pain. Medication helps manage the first week.
Risks: What You Should Know
Every surgery carries risk.
With breast augmentation, the most common include bleeding, infection, capsular contracture (scar tissue forming around the implant), implant rupture, or asymmetry. These are uncommon, but they should be part of your decision-making.
Implants are also not lifetime devices. Many last well over a decade, but at some point, most women will need revision or replacement.
Cost and Financing
Cost depends on implant type and surgical details.
At Town & Country Plastic Surgeons, we provide clear, transparent pricing and offer financing options through trusted partners.
My advice: don’t choose a surgeon based on the lowest fee. Choose based on experience, safety, and a philosophy that values natural results.
Breast augmentation isn’t about perfection.
It’s about proportion. Confidence. Comfort in your own skin.
Great outcomes don’t shout—they fit your life seamlessly.
If you’re considering breast augmentation in Houston or Lake Jackson, I’d be glad to sit down with you, review your health history, and build a plan designed specifically for you.
FAQ
How long do breast implants last?
Most implants last 10–15 years. Some last longer, but revision is often needed at some point.
Will breast augmentation affect breastfeeding?
Many women can breastfeed afterward, though it isn’t guaranteed. We’ll review incision placement and surgical approach to reduce impact.
When can I return to work?
Most patients return in about a week. If your job is physically demanding, it may take longer.
How visible are the scars?
Incisions are placed in discreet areas and usually fade over time. I’ll give you guidance on scar care.
Can I combine breast augmentation with a breast lift?
Yes. For women with significant sagging, a lift may be recommended along with augmentation. We’ll review your anatomy and goals to decide together.
