What is Facial Fat Grafting?
Facial fat grafting (also known as autologous fat transfer) is a two-step organic process. First, we harvest excess fat from an area of your body where you don’t want it (typically the abdomen, thighs, or flanks). We then purify this fat and meticulously inject it into specific areas of the face that have lost volume.
Why Choose Fat Over Fillers? While dermal fillers (like Juvéderm® or Restylane®) are excellent for temporary adjustments, they require maintenance every 6–12 months.
- Permanence: Once the transferred fat establishes a blood supply (typically within 4–6 weeks), the results are permanent.
- Natural Feel: Because it is your own living tissue, it moves, feels, and ages naturally with you.
- Dual Benefit: You achieve gentle body contouring in the harvest area while rejuvenating the face.
The Science of Fat: Macro, Micro, and Nano
Not all fat transfer is the same. To achieve natural, lump-free results, we utilize different “sizes” of fat grafts depending on the area being treated:
- Macro Fat Transfer: Used for structural volume in larger areas like the cheeks, chin, and temples.
- Micro Fat Transfer: Refined for delicate areas that need precise filling, such as the lips and nasolabial folds.
- Nano Fat Transfer: The most advanced technique, where fat is emulsified into a liquid rich in stem cells. This is used not for volume, but to improve skin texture, smooth fine lines, and treat dark circles in the tear troughs.

The Procedure The surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your comfort and whether it is combined with other procedures (like a Facelift).
- Harvesting: Fat is gently removed via low-pressure liposuction to preserve cell viability.
- Purification: The fat is spun and filtered to remove impurities.
- Placement: Using ultra-fine cannulas, the fat is layered into the face to create a smooth, lifted contour.
The Emotional & Physical Recovery We understand that recovery can be an emotional journey. Here is a realistic timeline:
- Days 1–3: Expect significant swelling and bruising. You will look “puffy” before you look better. This is normal.
- Days 4–10: Swelling begins to subside. Most clients feel comfortable returning to social activities and work by Day 10–14.
- Weeks 2–6: Results refine as the fat settles.
- Final Results: By Month 3, the fat has integrated, and your permanent, rejuvenated look is revealed.
