Facelift and Neck Lift

Offered at our convenient location in Houston, TX

There is often a moment when the face looking back at you in the mirror no longer reflects the vitality you feel. A neck lift, and rhytidectomy, known as facelift, can rejuvenate facial appearance for a younger, more youthful look. The dry, stifling heat of Houston, combined with the natural passage of time, can lead to sagging skin, deep folds, and a “tired” appearance that persists even after a full night’s sleep. At Town & Country Plastic Surgeons + Medspa in Houston, TX, we believe that facial and neck rejuvenation is transformative.

Led by Dr. Scott Yarish and Dr. Janak Parikh, our approach combines the art of aesthetic balance with the science of surgical precision to deliver results that look refreshed, authentic, and never “done.” We go beyond simple tightening to sculpt the underlying structures and restore the crisp, elegant angle of youth.

About Facelift and Neck Lift

Neck and facelifts are a synergistic combination of multiple techniques to create an artistic, youthful result. During your consultation, we will determine the precise approach needed to achieve your goals.

Facelifts are a comprehensive procedure that target the mid-to-lower face. It lifts and tightens sagging tissues, removes excess skin, and smooths deep creases to address moderate to severe signs of aging.

There are two primary types of facelifts: Deep-Plane and SMAS. Patients report high satisfaction and satisfying results with both techniques. (1) Both techniques work with the superficial musculoaponeurotic system, which is the layer that connects the facial muscles to the overlaying skin. Where it differs is what they do with it. A SMAS facelift tightens from above and the Deep-Plane repositions from underneath.

The SMAS technique tightens the connective layer, and through folding and trimming, skin is draped on top. This creates a natural-looking result, without the skin looking pulled tight. Patients enjoy quicker recovery times and results that last for roughly 7-10 years.

The Deep-Plane method works deeper than the connective layer. Your surgeon releases the ligaments and then moves the fat and tissues as a single unit. It is a repositioning instead of a tightening of the SMAS layer. Patients see longer recovery times but appreciate longer-lasting results.

Neck lifts combine several techniques that create elegant, enduring results. Based on your personalized treatment plan, Dr. Yarish and Dr. Parikh may employ:

  • Cervicoplasty: Removes excess, crepey skin with discrete incisions behind the ear and in the hairline. The skin is gently redraped and tightened for a smoother surface.
  • Platysmaplasty: Muscle tightening that corrects the vertical neck bands and restores structural support. Your surgeon tightens the weak platysma muscles (like an internal corset), stitching them together to create a firm, sharp angle under the chin.
  • Neck Liposuction: Sculpts a sleek profile by removing fullness and refining the jawline by diminishing excess fat.
  • Lower rhytidectomy: Improves the look of the jawline and upper neck by tightening loose skin.

Candidates

Often, the face and neck are the first places to reveal our age, and with a neck and facelift we can revitalize your appearance. A facelift is a highly personal decision. While we treat a wide age range of healthy patients, the right time for surgery is when you feel ready. You may be an ideal candidate if:

  • The “Tired” Comment: Friends or colleagues ask if you are tired, even when you feel energetic.
  • Loss of Definition: You notice jowls, softening along your jawline or hanging, loose skin on your neck.
  • Volume Loss: You have lost the youthful fullness in your cheeks.
  • Muscle Banding: Vertical cords (platysma bands) that stand out when you speak or smile.
  • Double Chin: Stubborn fat deposits that obscure the jawline, even if you are at a healthy weight.
  • Non-Surgical Limits: You have tried fillers or BOTOX®, but they no longer provide the lift you need.
  • Health Status: You are a non-smoker in good overall health.

Personal Consultation

What truly sets Town & Country Plastic Surgeons apart is our belief that surgery is just one part of the process. We have developed a signature protocol to maximize your results and speed up your recovery. We do not believe that “one size fits all,” and your surgeon will build your custom comprehensive rejuvenation plan. During your consultation, we will evaluate your skin quality, muscle support (SMAS layer), and anatomy to design a plan that fits your goals and attain beautiful results.

Preparation

In the weeks ahead of your procedure, your surgeon will make sure you are completely prepared for the treatment and recovery process to facilitate successful, lasting results. You will begin a personalized skincare regimen, potentially including microdermabrasion, to ensure your skin is healthy and vascularized before surgery. If necessary, you will adjust medications and stop nicotine use. You will set up a comfortable recovery space and arrange a ride home.

Procedure

Your surgery is performed in our private, accredited facility. The outpatient treatment usually lasts for 2-3 hours. Your procedure will vary depending on the complexity and techniques used. Many patients choose twilight sedation (over general anesthesia), which allows for a relaxed, comfortable experience without the heavy “hangover” of deep general anesthesia. As you and your surgeon will explore both options and select which will be safer for you and best fit the techniques being used. After your anesthesia, your surgeon will make precise incisions based on your treatment plan and anatomy. (2) He will then separate skin, muscles, and tissues and perform the methods to achieve your desired results. Next, he will tighten loose skin. Finally, he will close the incisions and carefully apply bandages.

After you have initially rested and been cleared, you will be able to recover in the comfort of your own home.

Recovery

We are with you every step of the way to ensure a smooth recovery. Your surgical care includes weekly check-ups and visits with our medical aestheticians for Lymphatic Massage and Ultrasound Treatments. These painless therapies significantly reduce swelling and bruising, helping you heal faster and feel better. As you progress through your recovery, you can expect to follow this typical timeline:

  • Day 1: You will return to the office the morning after surgery for a check-up and dressing change. We will gently wash your hair, clean your incisions, and apply a fresh, light elastic dressing.
  • First Week: You will wear supportive garments to minimize swelling and support the new contours. While you may feel groggy and tight, significant pain is rare.
  • Days 7–14: Most stitches are removed, and residual bruising can be covered with makeup. Most patients feel confident returning to work and social activities after two weeks.
  • Weeks 3–4: You can resume light exercise. Strenuous activity should be avoided until full clearance is given.
  • Long-Term: Results will continue to refine over 2–3 months as the tissues settle into their new, youthful position.

Results

As your final results emerge, you will see a rejuvenated, smoother appearance. A facelift and necklift do not stop the aging process, but it resets to a younger, tighter baseline. Depending on the scale of your procedure and the specific techniques used, most patients enjoy their improvements for 10-15 years.

Corresponding Procedures

A facelift and neck lift addresses the lower two-thirds of the face and the neck. To achieve complete facial harmony, many patients choose to combine their lift with:

  • Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty): To brighten tired eyes.
  • Fat Grafting: To restore lost volume to the cheeks and temples using your body’s own natural tissue.
  • Chin Augmentation: A weak chin can contribute to the appearance of a fleshy neck. Adding a small implant provides structural support for a sharper neckline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I look natural after a facelift?

Yes. The “wind-blown” look comes from pulling skin too tight. Our technique involves repositioning the deeper muscle layers (SMAS) first, then redraping the skin gently. This ensures your expression remains authentically yours, just fresher.

How long do facelift results last?

A facelift effectively “sets the clock back” by about 10 years. While you will continue to age naturally, you will always look younger than you would have without the surgery.

Will there be scars after a facelift?

Incisions are meticulously placed within the hairline and natural contours of the ear. Once healed, they are virtually undetectable to the naked eye.
