Breast Reduction

Consultations offered at our two convenient locations in Houston and Lake Jackson, TX

You are ready to stop managing your pain and start living your life.

For many women, large, heavy breasts are not a cosmetic asset—they are a daily physical and emotional burden. You know it is time for a change when you catch yourself planning your wardrobe around what will hide your chest rather than what makes you feel beautiful.

At Town & Country Plastic Surgeons + Medspa, we understand that Breast Reduction is often more than just plastic surgery; it is a quality-of-life intervention. Led by Dr. Scott Yarish and Dr. Janak Parikh, our goal is to gently reshape your body to better fit your frame, replacing chronic discomfort with a sense of weightlessness and proportion.

Is Breast Reduction Right for You?

The decision to pursue reduction often crystallizes when you realize how much mental and physical energy you devote to “accommodating” your chest. You may be an ideal candidate if:

  • Chronic Pain: You experience persistent back, neck, or shoulder pain that has become your “normal baseline.”
  • Grooving: You have deep, painful indentations in your shoulders from bra straps digging in.
  • Activity Limits: You avoid exercise classes, running, or certain hobbies because of bounce-related pain or self-consciousness.
  • Skin Issues: You suffer from chronic rashes or irritation underneath the breast fold.
  • Posture: You find yourself hunching forward to hide your silhouette, affecting your spinal alignment and confidence.

This procedure is suitable for women of all ages—from young women seeking relief to those in their 40s, 50s, and beyond who want to address the natural changes of gravity and time.

The Procedure: Function Meets Aesthetics

Breast reduction (reduction mammoplasty) is a dual-benefit procedure: it removes the physical weight while simultaneously lifting and shaping the breast for a younger, perky aesthetic.

How It Works:

  • Tissue Removal: We remove excess glandular tissue, fat, and skin to achieve a size that is proportional to your body frame.
  • Liposuction Contouring: We often utilize liposuction as a complementary technique to smooth the side of the breast and underarm area, ensuring a sleek transition.
  • The Lift: The nipple and areola are elevated to a youthful position, and the areola size may be reduced to match your new breast shape.

Surgical Details:

  • Anesthesia: General anesthesia.
  • Duration: 2 to 3 hours.
  • Facility: Performed as an outpatient procedure (you go home the same day).

Recovery: What to Expect

We prioritize transparency so you can plan your recovery with confidence.

The First Few Days Most patients experience manageable discomfort that is well-controlled with medication. You will be sent home in a surgical bra that provides essential support. It is normal to experience bruising and swelling, which typically peaks in the first week.

The Timeline

  • Support: You will likely need to wear a supportive surgical bra day and night for 6 weeks to ensure the tissues heal in their new, lifted position.
  • Sutures: We typically use dissolvable sutures, so there is no painful removal process.
  • Activity: You can return to desk work and light daily activities within 1–2 weeks.
  • Exercise: Heavy lifting and strenuous cardio must be avoided for 4–6 weeks to prevent internal bleeding or opening of incisions.

The Result While you will feel the “lightness” immediately, your final breast shape will settle over 3 to 6 months as swelling resolves and the tissues soften into a natural contour.

Addressing Your Concerns

What about scarring? Reduction requires incisions to remove skin, typically resulting in an anchor-shaped scar (around the areola, down to the crease, and along the fold). While scars are permanent, our surgeons place them strategically so they can be hidden beneath a standard bra or bathing suit. Over time, these scars fade significantly.

Will insurance cover it? Many insurance plans consider breast reduction a medically necessary procedure if you have documented symptoms (like back pain) that haven’t responded to other treatments. We can help guide you through the documentation process during your consultation.

Can I combine this with other procedures? Absolutely. Many patients choose to combine their reduction with a Tummy Tuck or Liposuction (Mommy Makeover) to restore their entire torso during a single recovery period.
