If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and thought, “I’ve worked hard, I’m close—but my lower stomach just won’t tighten up,” you’re not alone.
That last bit of lax skin below the belly button can be stubborn. It often resists diet, exercise, and even weight loss.
For many of my Houston patients, a mini tummy tuck offers the ideal middle ground: more correction than non-surgical treatments, but less downtime than a full abdominoplasty.

What Exactly Is a Mini Tummy Tuck?
A mini tummy tuck—sometimes called a partial abdominoplasty—targets the lower abdomen only.
That means the area between your belly button and pubic bone.
Unlike a full tummy tuck, it doesn’t reposition the belly button or tighten the entire abdominal wall. The incision is smaller, the recovery is faster, and the results are subtler—but still powerful.
The goal is to:
- Remove mild to moderate skin laxity
- Eliminate a small “pooch” or overhang
- Restore a flatter, smoother contour
For the right candidate, this approach delivers visible improvement without the extended downtime of a full abdominoplasty.
Who’s a Good Candidate in Houston?
A mini tummy tuck isn’t a one-size-fits-all procedure.
It’s best for patients who:
- Are close to their ideal body weight
- Have loose skin limited to the lower abdomen
- Don’t require major muscle tightening above the navel
- Want to minimize scarring and recovery time
In other words—if you’ve lost weight, had kids, or simply noticed your lower abdomen changing with age but still have good upper-abdominal tone—you might be the perfect candidate.
How It’s Done
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia.
I make a short incision—usually within the bikini line—to remove excess skin and tighten the underlying tissue.
If minor muscle laxity is present below the navel, I address that as well.
The belly button remains untouched.
Surgery typically takes 1½ to 2 hours, and most patients go home the same day.
Recovery and Results
Expect about a week of downtime before returning to desk work.
Light exercise can resume at two weeks, and full activity around four to six weeks.
Swelling and tightness are normal in the beginning, but as healing progresses, you’ll notice a flatter, firmer lower abdomen—and a silhouette that better matches how you feel.
The scar sits low and fades with time. Most of my Houston patients find it hides easily beneath underwear or swimwear.
Mini vs. Full Tummy Tuck: Key Differences
| Feature | Mini Tummy Tuck | Full Tummy Tuck |
| Treatment area | Below the belly button | Entire abdomen |
| Belly button repositioning | No | Yes |
| Muscle tightening | Limited | Extensive |
| Incision length | Shorter | Longer |
| Recovery time | Shorter | Longer |
| Ideal for | Mild to moderate skin laxity | Significant laxity or diastasis recti |
If your concern is mainly lower-abdominal skin, the mini approach delivers refined results without the commitment of a full surgery.
Why Patients in Houston Love It
Houston is a city that moves fast. My patients often tell me they want improvement—but they also want to get back to work, family, and life quickly.
The mini tummy tuck meets that reality.
Less downtime. Smaller incision. Real results.
It’s an elegant solution for a very specific problem: the small pocket of skin that won’t go away no matter how disciplined you are.
A mini tummy tuck doesn’t replace healthy habits—it complements them.
It’s for the person who already does the work but wants the finish line to look as good as it feels.
If that sounds like you, schedule a consultation in our Houston office.
We’ll discuss your goals, review your anatomy, and determine if the mini approach—or another procedure—fits best.

FAQs
How long do results last?
Results are long-term. As long as you maintain a stable weight and healthy lifestyle, the contour improvement can last for many years.
Will I have a visible scar?
The incision sits low, typically beneath the bikini line. Most patients find the scar minimal and easy to conceal.
Can it be combined with liposuction?
Yes. Liposuction often enhances results by removing stubborn fat around the abdomen or flanks, creating an even smoother shape.
How soon can I return to normal activities?
Most people return to work in about a week and resume workouts at four to six weeks—depending on the pace of healing.
Is a mini tummy tuck right for me after pregnancy?
If your skin laxity and muscle separation are confined below the belly button, it may be ideal. However, if you have more extensive changes, a full abdominoplasty might be recommended.
